SST Calibration – General facts:

After production every probe is calibrated as a whole system . For every produced probe, SST carries lifetime files from the very start. The contents of these files are shared with clients on demand, so that SST clients are able to confirm the quality of their measurements.

If clients require a recalibration of their probes, they can send back their probes to our headquarters and we will recalibrate the probes.

If we find damages we will contact the client and if he agrees we will repair the probes or replace them with a new probe, if repair is not possible.

Every recalibration will be completed within two weeks and sent back to the client. In urgent cases recalibrations are available within 3 days (50% express surcharge). Also, if available, we can provide our clients with a temporary replacement probe (there is a fee for this service).

For a long lifetime of SST probes, we recommend the probes be recalibrated and serviced once a year in our factory.

Sensor Calibration

For temperature calibration we use various reference standards from assorted manufacturers. We calibrate against milli-kelvin thermometers (MKT).
Therefore the precision of the temperature sensors of our probes is 10 times higher than what we show on our datasheets. The temperature calibration is in the range of
0 °C<T< +36 °C

The water in the SST calibration basins for conductivity is totally free from air bubbles and micro air bubbles. Such bubbles would falsify the results of conductivity in the calibrations.
The reference electrodes are permanently monitored against standard seawater by help of salinometers.
For the regression analysis we measure 15 to 21 points in the conductivity range from 0 to 70 mc/cm.

Depth / Pressure.
For the recalibration of the pressure sensor, SST is using a calibrated precision pressure level with a barometric correction from 0<P<10.000 dbar. In the whole pressure range SST is measuring 11 points.
Every pressure sensor is recalibrated with complete electronics to compensate disrupting effects. This method results in the unique precision of SST products.

The REDOX sensors are calibrated against the highest calibration standards with the help of precision buffer solutions.

O2/ Oxygen
The oxygen calibration is carried out against „WINKLER titration“ (iodometric titration) as reference. SST has developed an own precision calibration method which corresponds to the winkler titration, but is more precise.

Chlorophyll / Chlorophyll-A
To breed algae-derived for specific Chlorophyll calibrations, SST has an own S1-Laboratory at its disposal. This enables SST to win algae-derived for the calibration of diverse fluorescense sensors. The calibration is done based on the wavelength with which the algae are illuminated.
SST sensors are calibrated to the client’s requirements for specific algaes. Further adaptations for additional algal species are always possible.

blue algae (Cyanobacteria); Chlorophyll A; CDOM; CDOM (Organicmatter); Fluorescin Dye; Rhodamin Dye; Phytocyanine; Phytoerythrine; Tryptophane; PTSA Dye

H2S ( hydrogen sulfid)
Consuming sensor; Recalibration is possible , the demand for a recalibration is very seldom

H2 sensor
Consuming sensor; Recalibration is possible

H3O Sensor
Consuming sensor; Recalibration is possible

pH (2-10 pH) and pH H2S resistant (2-10 pH)
the sensors for this ph range are consuming sensors, we can recalibrate them as long as possible. For precise measurement we recommend to replace these sensors every year.

Light (PAR)
Recalibration very seldom needed, but possible

This sensor is factory calibrated. As long as the sensor works no recalibration is necessary. Afterward the sensor has to be replaced.
